Makhuduthamaga Mayor is devastated after a fire incident that claimed a family member’s life
The Mayor of Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality, Cllr Merah Mahlase, expresses her condolences to the family of Mokwena in Stocking village, Ward 14, following a fire incident that burned and killed a family member on Wednesday, 11 September 2024.
Khutsho Mokwena, 38, died after his shack house caught fire and his body was burned beyond recognition, on Wednesday around midday. The cause of the fire is unknown. According to reports, the deceased was living alone in a shack while his two-room house was still under construction.
The police and emergency management services (EMS) were promptly contacted and dispatched to the location, and the body was transported from the scene by forensic services in the evening.
Ward Councillor Moretsele Magane Amos and disaster officials from the municipality paid a visit to the visit to the residence to assess the damage.
The Mayor extends her deepest sympathies to the family and community during this difficult time.
