Former soccer star Steve Lekoelea reportedly falls on hard times, grappling with alcoholism and a longing for his past glory days.

According to ZiMoja, former soccer player Steve Lekoelea (45), is said to have fallen on hard times, with reports suggesting that he is struggling with alcoholism and constantly reminiscing about his former glory days as a footballer.

Known as "Chippa," Lekoelea, who was a standout player for Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates, is allegedly burdening his friends in Sebokeng with his demands for attention and boasts about his past achievements.

According to a drinking buddy that spoke to ZiMoja, Lekoelea often talks about his success with Orlando Pirates and fails to take responsibility for the downfall of his career, resorting to asking for help as if he had never played professional football.

Another source from the neighborhood expressed frustration, stating that Lekoelea is continuously drowning his sorrows in alcohol and expecting sympathy from others instead of seeking opportunities to coach young players, such as approaching the coach of the Pirates reserve team, led by his former teammate Joseph "Dukuduku" Makhanya.

Despite once having the chance of a lifetime to play for Dutch giants, PSV Eindhoven, at the age of 18, Lekoelea allegedly left due to feeling homesick and struggling with the language barrier.

It appears that Lekoelea's life has taken a different course, with concerns mounting about his well-being and future prospects in the face of his current struggles.
